Unveiling the Rhythmic Magic
The resounding beat of the Indian Dhol drum has been a powerful and integral part of traditional celebrations and cultural events for centuries.
Rhythmic beats fill the air as the Dhol drum sets the tone for a lively and energetic celebration.
The Dhol, also known as the Indian drum, is a large double-sided barrel-shaped drum made from Indian rose wood. On both sides of the wooden shell are synthetic stretched skins made from different materials. Rope is then woven through to get the sound of sweet treble and deep bass. The origins of the Dhol can be traced back to ancient Indian civilization, and it has played a significant role in Indian culture ever since. It has been around since the 15th century and is widely known in India and the UK. It creates a sharp and powerful sound that can entertain people for hours on end.
The Dhol is played with two sticks. The Dagga is the curved thick stick played on the bass side. The Tilli is the long thin stick played on the treble side of the Dhol that produces a rich and resonant sound. The Dhol is also often played alongside the traditional Punjabi folk dance, bhangra, or can be accompanied by other musicians, which further enhances the overall experience.
