Meet The Team

Our Dhol drummers are known for their electrifying beats and vibrant performances.

A team that thrives on innovation, constantly pushing the boundaries of rhythmic styles and evolving fresh musical expressions.

We are a group of talented individuals who continually innovate and evolve new styles of rhythms with the latest music trends. The most impressive aspect of our Dhol drummers is their ability to synchronize their beats with each other while performing. This synchronicity is achieved through years of practice and training. The drummers have to be in perfect harmony with each other, as even a slight deviation in timing can throw off the entire performance. This level of coordination and teamwork is what makes our Dhol performance truly mesmerizing.

With our vast knowledge and skills we are able to create an ecstatic atmosphere unique to your event for you and your guests to dance the night away.

Our Dhol drummers are known for their energetic performances and their ability to bring life to any celebration or event.

Rhythm ‘N’ Bass was formed in 2008 having all met at the school of Dhol2Dhol. We now manage and teach the Dhol drum to students of all ages at this leading Dhol school.

We have a wealth of experience having performed with some of the biggest talents in the music industry and at some of the UK’s finest venues. Our Dhol drummers have also gained international recognition and have performed at events and festivals all over the world. Our energetic and lively performances have captivated audiences from different cultures and have helped to spread the joy of Punjabi and North Indian music.

Rhythm ‘N’ Bass Dhol drummers are known for their energetic performances and their ability to bring life to any celebration or event.

Arun Patel

Playing Dhol since 2003
“Being part of a committed team means we have the confidence to do something different every time we perform.”

Arun has been playing the dhol since 2003. He has always been a fan of percussion but only got into dhol drumming when he was once playing around on his friends dhol. It came so naturally to him and has loved playing it ever since. Joining Rhythm ‘N’ Bass allowed Arun to share his talent with various audiences and play together in a team of like minded drummers.

A once in a lifetime experience and possibly one of the most memorable performances for Arun was playing at the Wembley Stadium for the welcome ceremony for the Prime Minister of India. Rhythm ‘N’ Bass has taken Arun to places he could not have dreamt of, such as being on tour with some of the greatest vocalists in Bollywood such as Shreya Goshal and Adnam Sami.

Other than dhol drumming, Arun also loves to play the piano, solve puzzles and build lego to help him recharge and unwind.

Ram Patel

Playing Dhol since 2004
“Meeting and making connections with people, both with wedding suppliers and family members at events is the most enjoyable feeling being part of Rhythm ‘N’ Bass.”

Ram has been playing the dhol since 2004 with some of his high school friends. Together they first performed at the school’s international evening. In 2008 he was a founding member of Rhythm ‘N’ Bass after progressing through the Dhol2Dhol syllabus with a great group of drummers.

One of the most memorable performances for Ram was performing with Shreya Ghoshal for the 2013 tour in Switzerland and Amsterdam as well as performing for the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at the Wembley Stadium.

Apart from dhol drumming, Ram enjoys keeping fit with regular workouts at home and at the gym to help him recharge and unwind.

Hiren Patel

Playing Dhol since 2002
“Being able to perform alongside other fantastic drummers, and having friends who become like family is one of the most enjoyable parts of Rhythm ‘N’ Bass”.

Hiren started playing the dhol in 2002. From attending family weddings he was fond of hearing the dhol during the jaan arrival, so his dad bought him his first dhol from India and the journey started since then. Hiren was one of the starting members in Rhythm ‘N’ Bass after joining the team in 2008 where he was asked by close friends to be part of a new way of putting individual dhol skills to use within a close-knit team.

Hiren’s most memorable performance was alongside musician Harshdeep Kaur live on stage at Wembley Arena. This was part of her supporting act during the Adnan Sami UK tour in 2012. This later led on to being asked to join the Shreya Ghoshal tour in 2013 as opening acts for her Europe tour.

Rhythm ‘N’ Bass has provided a progressive platform for Hiren to develop his passion for dhol drumming and to become confident every time he performs. His musical inspiration comes from listening to new urban beats and traditional folk beats from India. He uses his free time on meditating and listening to music to unwind when he is not drumming.

Vinay Mepani

Playing Dhol since 2001
“Rhythm ‘N’ Bass has helped me in many ways and I wouldn’t be where I am now without the team. My most memorable performance was when we went on a UK and Europe tour with the one and only Shreya Ghoshal.”

Vinay has been playing the dhol since 2001. It all started when he was 7 years old, when his school just started to teach tabla. He learnt classical tabla for 4 years at school. Later, a friend introduced him to dhol and showed him a few beats. From the first instance, he loved it, and has been playing the dhol ever since. Vinay enjoys being able to perform at some of the finest venues in the UK alongside his best friends. The group was initially formed to apply and perform at Britain’s Got Talent in 2008. Since then, they have continued to entertain people all over the world.

Apart from dhol drumming, Vinay is also a DJ and a music producer. He enjoys all music genres including Bhangra, Bollywood, R&B, Hip Hop and Dancehall, and in his free time he produces remixes of a wide variety of songs.

Kaushik Vaghji

Playing Dhol since 2008
“Walking out to an attendance of over 60,000 at Wembley Stadium when the Indian Prime Minister visited the UK. Goosebumps! Not only was this an unforgettable experience, but it was also during a time when I was falling out of love with Dhol. This was the performance that re-ignited my passion.”

Kaushik started his musical journey back in 2002, when he started learning to play the tabla, and transitioned to dhol in 2008, after watching his cousin perform on stage at Trafalgar Square. He was asked to join Rhythm ‘N’ Bass in 2020 after freelancing with the other teams at several events.

Rhythm ‘N’ Bass has helped Kaushik come out of his shell, and become confident in meeting new clients and working with different suppliers at events. Being given the opportunity to perform at some of the most lavish and exclusive venues across the country and collaborating with some incredibly talented artists has been his biggest highlight.

Kaushik enjoys dhol drumming to many music genres, including, drum and bass, jungle, bollywood and even experimenting with dubstep, but he has found his niche with traditional garba. Other than dhol drumming he also plays other percussion instruments in order to get some rhythmic practice on the dholak, tabla and darbuka.

Vinay Halai

Playing Dhol since 2011
“Representing Rhythm ‘N’ Bass at numerous events has significantly boosted my confidence to a new height. The experience of drumming in front of large crowds and engaging with new people at these gigs has enriched me as a person.”

Vinay has continued learning at the Dhol2Dhol school ever since 2011. His interest in dhol drumming sparked at a young age, where he would watch dhol players perform at weddings. That initial curiosity inspired him to learn dhol drumming.

His dhol teachers offered him the chance to join Rhythm ‘N’ Bass in 2023. This opportunity offered Vinay a fresh platform to show the skills he gained over the past 13 years. Performing at diverse events with the group gives Vinay the opportunity to showcase his passion for the instrument and bring joy to people’s faces.

One of his most memorable and unforgettable experiences was his very first reception gig at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. As it was a new experience, naturally he felt nervous before the set. However, with the support from the other drummers and the enthusiastic reactions from the audience, his nerves were quickly eased.

Vinay loves listening to bhangra music but also enjoys playing the dhol to western music as it is a great way for him to experiment with different rhythms and come up with new beats that you wouldn’t usually hear. To take a break from dhol life, Vinay enjoys taking part in sports to unwind, especially football and cricket as it allows him to stay active and have fun at the same time.
